How the number at a spot is made
At every spot the wind is blended from the weather stations, airports and model points around it, usually within 15 km. Nearer sources count for more, airport reports for double and model points for half. Stations report the average wind of roughly the last 10 minutes and the strongest gust in that time; airports report about every 30 minutes. Direction is averaged as an angle, so 350° and 10° give north, not south.
When nothing nearby has reported recently, the spot shows a dash rather than a number: no reading is not the same thing as no wind.
Knots and km/h
The lists show km/h. One knot is 1.852 km/h, so 10 knots is about 19 km/h, 15 knots about 28 km/h, 20 knots about 37 km/h and 25 knots about 46 km/h.
How much wind is enough
As a rough guide, kitesurfing gets going from about 22 km/h, windsurfers need about the same to plane, and wingfoil can start from about 15 to 18 km/h. The sport pages say more about what each one needs from the wind and the place.

How often does the page update?
While the page is open it refreshes every minute. Weather stations are read about every minute, airports report about every 30 minutes, and model points are recomputed only a few times a day.
Why does a spot show a dash instead of a number?
Because no station or airport near it has reported recently enough, so there is nothing true to show. A dash is deliberate: an invented number would be worse than none.
Is this a forecast?
No. It shows what is blowing now. If you want to know when the wind arrives, a free wind alert tells you as soon as the conditions you chose are met.
